Chief Tony Okoroji, Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria COSON,, Nigeria’s biggest copyright collective management organization, has issued a statement thanking the leadership of the Creative Industry Group (CIG) for the grand celebration of his contribution to the growth of the Nigerian creative industry over the decades and for the great honour done to him by CIG, with the presentation to him of a LIFE TIME ACHIEVERS AWARD.
Chief Okoroji also expressed his appreciation to all the great creatives representing different facets of the industry: music, movies, literature, fashion, dance, journalism, etc., who attened the event at Kulture Yard in Ikeja on October 27, 2023 to honour him and the hundreds who have sent messages of solidarity to him from across the world.
Said Chief Okoroji, “I am overwhelmed by the unexpected massive show of love and support. I do the work I do not for money, awards or appreciation. I have given practically everything I can for no other reason but love of country. I began my dedication to promoting and protecting the rights of creative people in Nigeria when few people understood the meaning of intellectual property rights. Mine used to be a voice in the wilderness. Today, I am happy that Nigerian music, movies, literature and fashion are making important statements around the world. I am convinced that what is happening is only the beginning. The demand for Nigeria’s creative products will shock many”.
Abba Johnson Crescent in the Adeniyi Jones area of Lagos State, where Kulture Yard is located, was practically on lockdown on the 27th of October 2023.
On that day, the stars of the Nigerian creative industry rolled out the red carpet and in a very special way, celebrated a master of the industry, Chief Tony Okoroji, a man who, year after year, has provided consistent and unmatched leadership towards the building of what today is known as the Nigerian creative industry.
