Ogunbote regrets Kwara United draw

Shooting Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote believes his side deserved a better result from their Nigeria Premier Football League match-day eight game against Kwara United in Ilorin despite getting a 1-1 draw on the road, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ogunbote’s side finished the game with 10 men after captain Taofeek Malomo was sent off just before halftime. Molomo had given 3SC the lead on the stroke of halftime and his marching orders followed a minute later.

Despite being a man down for most part of the second forty-five minutes, 3SC held on to their lead until the 80th minute when Mohammed Alao levelled matters for the hosts.

It was the second draw on the road for 3SC this season but Ogunbote, had anticipated what he expected to have been their first win on the road.

“Even with 10 men, I just feel like we were a little bit careless. We had managed the game up till 90 minutes. But be it as it may, it’s a consolation, it’s okay we never laboured in vain,” the coach said after the game.

“My target was to win, every coach’s target is to win a game but you can see it, as a result of the red card our target was a little bit shattered. You know Nigerian players, the moment a player gets sent off, they tend to move back thinking that it will affect them and I think it really affected us but we are going to work seriously on this,” he added.

The Oluyole Warriors have four wins, two draws and two defeats from eight matches this season and that leaves them in fourth position with 14 points.

Their next game is at home against four-time NPFL champions, Kano Pillars, on match-day nine.
