Senator, Adamu Aliero, representing Kebbi Central at the 10th national assembly has expressed worries on the raging insecurity in the North-West of Nigeria.

Aliero

The former two terms governor of Kebbi State is particularly worried that the menace is spreading too quickly. He observed that the attacks were previously limited to just Zamfara State, but now it has spread to Katsina, Sokoto and also Kebbi States. Responding on the significance of having four former governors from North-West geo-political zone as serving Senators and how it affects the discourse on security in that zone, he affirmed ‘it is true three of us, all former governors of the individual states of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara are presently in the 10th Senate but security matter is not something you can discuss in the press so freely. No doubt, we are doing everything possible to ensure that the zone is violent free’. Former Governors: Aliyu Wammako(Sokoto State), Abdulazeez Yari (Zamfara State) Aminu Tambuwal(Sokoto State), and Adamu Aliero(Kebbi State) are presently representing their individual Senatorial districts of their states. Senator Aliero maintains that they are in constant touch with the service chiefs just as the governors of the individual states affected are doing their best to mitigate the situation. ‘We in the national assembly, by the grace of God we are also complimenting their efforts by assisting them in our own ways…We discuss strategies with the service chiefs; and it is something we have been doing for quite a while now and I thank God that we have started seeing some results’ insists the Senator.

Three operations, he told the reporter, were carried out in kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto recently that took out a large number of bandits. Senator Aliero who is also a former Minister of the FCT, urged the service chiefs to sustain the tempo of operations and advised too that ‘it should be held simultaneously, because if you operate it in Zamfara without doing same in kebbi they would simply move from Zamfara to kebbi once they hear sounds of Air craft… they indeed move in motorcycles of up to 150 people, armed with AK 47; a very dangerous trend. I am confident if the operations continue in the way it is going presently, in the next three months the situation would have improved significantly’ he believes.
