It is becoming obvious by the day that Nyesom Wike has the backing of the Presidency for the crisis he is fomenting in Rivers State.
On what basis is Mr. President intervening and negotiating truce in the conflict between Governor Fubara and Wike. It can only be because Mr. Wike is walking the path Mr. President knows very well. Of course anyone who adopts your methods would be welcomed.
But we have a constitution and it’s provisions are clear with regard to who superintends over a state. The law is also clear in respect of what happens when a lawmaker, or group of law makers, cross the carpet. There are also court pronouncements on the matter. At no point is the intervention of the Presidency prescribed.
So what is Mr. President’s interest in the misunderstanding between Governor Fubara and his godfather, Nyesom Wike? Tinubu’s intervention is not only unconstitutional, but also shows clearly that he is backing Wike. One may now ask, is this the reason he appointed Wike as Minister?
Mr. President is setting a bad precedent. He should let our laws work please. Let him call his minister, Wike, to order.
