Let the legal fire works begin as Emefiele sues investigator, denies opening 593 foreign accounts

The anticipated legal fire works that will determine whether ex-Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) actually owns 593 foreign bank accounts may open next year as the former apex bank governor may have instructed his lawyers to institute a defamatory action against the CBN investigator, Jim Obazee, whose committee most media houses credited the report to.

Emefiele, in a statement on Sunday, said he had instructed his lawyers to immediately commence legal process to clear his name from the defamatory statements contained in the report.
One of his lawyers, Maxwell Okpara, who released the statement to Daily Trust, confirmed that it was issued by the embattled former CBN’s governor.

The Special Investigator, Jim Obazee, in the documents obtained by journalists, had, among other allegations, accused Emefiele, of opening 593 foreign bank accounts without approval of either President Muhammadu Buhari or CBN’s board of directors.
