It’s most probably my best experience in my home state of Imo in many years. Arriving Owerri by road on 28 of December, I was kind of apprehensive going on a hired cab to Añara at past 9pm given stories of insecurity. But Chukwudi Chinakwe who organised the cab and is resident of Owerri assured me that ‘nothing go happen’.
“You people probably assume we are all dead in this state but it’s not bad at all. Even the sit-at-home Mondays are my best business days”, he continued to emphasize that I had nothing to fear.
It was really reassuring and I took the chance to do a little shopping for whiskey and toiletries at a mall by Okigwe road.
Now to the best part. Rochas Okorocha and all previous Governors of the state should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves when you behold what Hope Uzodinma has done with the Owerri-Okigwe highway that passed through so many towns including my Añara.
The reconstructed highway is a top notch work and it’s not just the quality of the macadam but the solar powered street lights that gave illumination and made the night look like mid-day
We may have derided Uzodinma as Supreme Court Governor or 419iner but he has endeared himself to many Imolites through his good works which I’m told spread to Owerri-Orlu, Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia roads and the Airport road off Owerri-Aba road.
Driving through the Wetheral Road to the Airport, it was such a smooth ride devoid of potholes. A very beautiful departure from the ‘China Roads’ Okorocha insulted us with.
After the nasty experience of travel on degenerated federal highways from Lagos, I swore never again and the pleasurable ride from Añara to the airport assuaged for the raw ordeal inside a God-Is-Good vehicle.
I’m a new convert of Governor Hope Uzodinma.
