WE see Mike Okafor’s proposal to a lady turned down leading to depression as the movie begins. And this set the tone for a dinner in session with three chaotic, confused and battered friends trying to explain the cause of the bruises on their faces, after what must have being an altercation because of previous relationships with each girlfriend and fiancé which they had before going into the present relationships.
An assumed comedy, the movie titled Dinner, continues when Adetunde George Jr (Enyinna Nwigwe) invited his childhood best friend and chosen to be his Best man for Mike Okafor (Okey Uzoeshi) and his colleague at work, a high level randy Richard ‘Richie’ Boyo (Deyemi Okanlawon) which Adetunde’S fiancé Lola Cooker (Kehinde Bankole) initially resisted him coming due to an experience she had with him which she did not disclose to her fiancée.
Mike Okafor just recovered from a depression when the lady he proposed to refused and finally got someone, Diane Bassey (Keira Hewatch), he believed he was going to propose to hence asked her to come along with him for the dinner.
Both friends are supposed to come over for dinner as a kind of wedding preparations just to find out their assumed girlfriend previously had relationships with their friends thus opening a “can of worm”.
The complexity and the suspense continue as the dinner unfolds into the night in these relationship quagmire among these guys who have varying believes about women and relationships
‘Dinner’ can be said to be about love, cheating, broken trust, betrayal by those closest to you, acceptance that deeds has/had already been done (Moving-on), forgiveness and ultimately starting anew.
The captivating storytelling of flirting /sex steamed text messages, hookups and one-night stands from a randy buddy was exposed at “Dinner”.
The film was produced and directed by Jay Franklyn Jutuboh and Chris Odeh. It is filled with romance, suspense and drama.
We later see the introduction of two veterans and award winning actors, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Iretiola Doyle who doubled as the father and mother of Adetunde George Jr.
This movie showed some elements Nigerian producers contend with-lean budget and knowledge and resources regarding CGI (computer-generated imagery). So, local movies that lean heavily on special effects tend to come out poorly, with the digitally generated imagery and environment looking unreal and somewhat laughable.
However, films like ‘Dinner’ play to our strength, history and culture in movie making.
