Revolutionizing the dissemination of the MORE Agenda through information managers in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) has been brought to the forefront by the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza.
To this end, Dr. Osuoza felt the pulse of Public Relations Officers (PROs) in the various MDAs to appreciate the challenges hindering the media professionals from aggressively realizing the propagation of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
Addressing the PROs in a strategic meeting held in Asaba, the information commissioner charged them to justify their relevance by going the extra mile in communicating activities of their respective MDAs to the public.
‘’By writing and explaining the policy thrust of the government, you will exert yourself if you want to be relevant. Otherwise, if it is understood that you are just laid-back, nobody will engage you purposefully.
‘’Before you are given a crucial assignment in your MDAs, you must do things that will market your competence to your superiors. You cannot afford to be relaxed; you must seize the initiative if you know your worth.
‘’As trained professionals, you must be able to showcase the MORE Agenda and activities of the state government. We will also provide you with the needed equipment to do your job but you can also improvise in the interim if you have passion for the job,” he said.
Among other things, the state’s spokesman promised to address some of the challenges highlighted at the meeting, including the provision of equipment for officers to discharge their duties and building robust partnerships between the information managers and their political heads.
Concerning building a solid and central archive for the storage of government information, Dr. Osuoza stressed the need for a healthy collaboration between the public relations units/departments in the MDAs and the handlers of the government website.
During the interactive meeting, some of the PROs related some of their challenges to the information commissioner. They lamented that they were being marginalized by the increasing incursion of non-professionals into the information management apparatus of their MDAs.
They also pleaded with the information commissioner to provide the necessary tools for them to effectively discharge their duties, even as they commended his efforts to intervene and revolutionize the industry for the efficient dissemination of the MORE Agenda and preserving government records for posterity’s sake.
