Delta State now destination for Nollywood film production

Delta state has been described as the entertainment hub of Nigeria and a state that will always be in the forefront of the creative economy.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, made this known when the Delta International Theater and Art Festival, DITAFEST, organizing committee, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Asaba, on Thursday.

The SSG, who was represented by the functioning Permanent Secretary in the office of the SSG, Mr. Tony Abua, said that the state had become the entertainment capital of Nigeria, especially with the setting up of the Mariam Babangida leisure Park and Film Village, which has made the state a destination for the production Nollywood films.

Dr. Emu commended the organizing committee’s initiative to use the International Theater and Art Festival coming up in the state to boost the entertainment and tourism sectors of the state.

Earlier, the Festival Director of DITAFEST, Mr. Alex Akpuh, solicited the state government’s support to replicate the festival in the state like other states in the country.

Mr.  Akpu said the festival would attract foreign investors, boost the state’s rich tourism potential, as well as develop and export local contents.

The International Theater and Art Festival has been scheduled to hold from the 14th to the 18th of August,2024, with major events such as exhibitions, lectures, tourism tours among other activities lined up for the festival.
