The Director-General, Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, WUEDA, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere has given a 7 days ultimatum to car dealers, auto mechanics and transporters in WUEDA’s mandate areas to operate only within the premises authorized by the Government.
The WUEDA DG gave this order while carrying out his sensitization campaign on the need to restore Warri, Uvwie and Environs, aka Oil City, back to normalcy.
Hon. Ejinyere’s first point of call was the office of the Car Dealers Association of Delta State along Refinery Road Effurun, where he urged officials of the association to spread the message to all its members in the metropolis, so as to avoid being penalized.
He frowned at a situation where car dealers in the Oil City displayed their cars on the roads, walkways and on drainage slabs, describing such operations as illegal and unacceptable.
The Agency’s boss said that at the end of the 7 days ultimatum, offenders would have their cars impounded by a Task Force, while a Mobile Court would prosecute them on the spot for appropriate penalties.
While praising car dealers who operated within stipulated legal frameworks, the DG ordered all those doing business by the right and left fences of the Govt Technical College, Effurun, to relocate within 14 days, failure to which they would be arrested and prosecuted by the Agency.
He also charged the people to de-silt the gutters in front of their houses and shops to avoid flooding during the rainy season, and also for the sake of public health.
Responding, the President of the Delta State Car Dealers Association, Mr. Linus Ijiga thanked Prince Ejinyere and his team for their efforts towards restoring the lost glory of Warri and its environs.
Mr. Ijiga assured the WUEDA DG that the message would be passed to all car dealers in the Oil City, and anyone caught flouting the order would be made to face the music.
Hon. Ejinyere, accompanied by the car dealers EXCO, took the campaign to the car dealers in their various shops, pointing out areas of concern that needed to be rectified.
Thereafter, the DG and his team moved to Effurun-Sapele Road by Ovie Palace Road junction, and then to the ever-busy Effurun Roundabout, the gateway to the Oil City, where he warned tricycle riders and mechanics, as well as mini bus drivers, not to use the roads as workshops or parks, as such activities help to deface the city, and cause traffic jams.
The Agency then served the leader of each group a notice of the 7 days ultimatum, as he emphasized that it would no longer be business as usual.
He told the people that the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was very determined to revive Warri, Uvwie and environs so as to attract investors to the area for the benefit of all residents, and appealed for their support.
