2baba, Omorogbe: When twenty children cannot play for 20 years

By Charles Okogene

A time tested Yoruba proverb once said and I translate. ” Twenty children cannot play for twenty years’, though, in the case of 2baba, Innocent Idibia and Now Muzik co-founded by Efe Omorogbe and others, they have played for two decades on the dott before going their different ways.

Both have been together since 1994 and have done this and done that. And like 2baba put it in his post mutual agreement to separate, ‘ no good thing lasts forever’ and on that note, charlesokogene.com, wishes them all the best in their future endeavors but not without stating a little about both.

2baba happened on Nigeria’s entertainment industry through Dove Entertainment owed by Nelson Brown. Then known more as Tuface, he was a member of Plantsun Bois made up of Blackface and Face. They parted ways in the 1990s before 2baba joined Kennis Music owned by Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye, D1, others. It was on Kennies Music that he released his monster hit song, African Queen, that catapulted him to top of music chats the world over. The only song from Nigeria that compared with African Queen is Nico Mbarga’s Sweet Mother released on Rogers All Star label Onitsha in the 1970s.

On the other hand, Efe Omorogbe kicked off in his artiste management journey with Now Muzik in the 1990s with others after graduating from UNILAG. It is imperative to note that 2baba was not the first or the only artiste on his management company but it is safe to say that he was the biggest, the chicken that laid the golden eggs.

2baba released many chat topping albums while with Now Muzik and Kennis Music, became one of, if not the biggest hip hop act of his era before parting ways with both peacefully.

His agreeing to leave Now Muzik will not surprise those of us that has followed his career from Plantsun Bois; quietly he left the group with less noise, left Kennis Music when the ovation was loudest and now has decided to take what is remaining of his more than 20 years career as a solo act in his hand out the guidance of Omorogbe/Now Muzik; a character that has become second nature to him.

To Now Muzik and 2baba, once again we say well done and continue on this path in you future plans.
