… Says that funds for constituency project are from govt not individual rep

To further make the tracking of constituency projects exercise that ICPC initiated in 2020 to track projects, the Commission has urged Nigerian’s to take active interest in projects/empowerment embarked upon in their locality by their representatives as funds for the executive of the projects are not from the reps’ pocket but money provided by government under constituency project.

This was the submission of the Head Consistency and Executive Project Tracking Initiative CEPTI, Mr. Jimoh Sulahimah, at the just concluded two-day training programme/press briefing held in Lagos on April 28 to 29.

At the briefing at, which the Commission’s newly appointed spokesman, Demola Bakare, promised that the new Chairman of the Commission, Adamu Aliyu (SAN), promised to run an open door policy with the press as they will not be denied access to information, Mr. Sulahimah also disclosed how money meant for building a town hall in a community was diverted and used im building imposing mult-storey hotel on a private parcel of land belonging to the rep as a constituency project.

The scenario, he said is the same all over Nigeria and not peculiar to a state or geo-political region and also narrated how some of there reps/senator used constituency project funds to empower their constituents and boldly print their name and picture on empowerment item as if they used their personal money to do it.

Sulahimah further took the mediamen through the whole gambit of tracking, why it was set up in 2020 by the commission, what tracking really entails, other government agencies including the press involved in it and why the commission wants much awareness on it.
