The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has asserted that traditional rulers were important stakeholders whose guidance and direction are critical in the development of any society.
Senator Dafinone made the assertion while speaking with newsmen at the sidelines of the South-South Traditional Rulers’ Conference held at Government House, Asaba.
He said that the guidance and experiences they bring to Nigerian society is something that must not be taken for granted.
Senator Dafinone said that the South-South was the food basket of the nation, adding that the traditional rulers were the holders of their traditions.
He noted that the traditional rulers were leaders of their various communities before they ascended to the throne, stressing that their inputs were always needed for the peace, security and upliftment of Nigeria.
He described Delta State as a leading light in South-South, explaining that the Conference would provide many opportunities for the leaders of the region, including himself, to exchange views on the direction the South -South region should go.
He appealed to the Traditional Rulers to support the Government at all levels in ensuring that the dividends of democracy touches everyone in the society.
He stated further that the issue of security could not be handled by the government all alone, pointing out that the Traditional Rulers in their various domains must ensure that they take the issues of security very dear to their hearts.
He added, “we can only live in a peaceful and virile society when all Traditional Rulers do the needful by supporting all policies and programmes of government.
