It’s not true DStv subscription based not up to 1.2m in Nigeria, cannot loss such figure

By Tope Ajayi

I don’t know when most Nigerians will learn to have rational conversation on any issue online.

Once you put out information that questions and or deconstructs generally held beliefs and assumptions, many of our people will go ballistic with insults and trolls. Assumptions and trolls will never be a substitute for facts and evidence.

Someone posted that DSTV has lost 1.2m subscribers in Nigeria and I queried the figure because I know, fairly, the entire subscribers base of DSTV in Africa.

The point I tried to make on the post was that the 1.2m claim in Nigeria can’t be true because the total number of DSTV subscribers in Nigeria is probably a little higher. By the time you add GOTV subscribers in Nigeria the number will likely be around 3m subscribers or less.

Multichoice just released its 2024 financial year report and it shows that the company has only 8.1million subscribers in the rest of Africa markets outside South Africa. Nigeria is second largest market for the company in Africa followed by Ethiopia.

If the company reports 8.1m subscribers in the rest of Africa markets it simply shows they don’t have tens of millions of subscribers many people assume they have in Nigeria.
