Okiro

Sir (Dr.) Mike Mbama Okiro was born on the 24th of July, 1949 in Egbema, Obiaku LGA of Rivers State.

He attended among others, the University of Ibadan, (Treasurer, Rivers State Students Association) University of Lagos, University of Jos. An alumnus of the prestigious Nigeria Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS)

He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Superintendent of Police (ASP) on 1sr August, 1977, grew through the ranks to become the 13th indigenous Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force in June, 2007 and retired without blemish on 24th July, 2009 after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.

In 2013, he was appointed as the Chairman of Nigeria Police Service Commission, an agency that is responsible for the Appointment, Promotion and Discipline of police personnel. The position he held till June2018 when his tenure of 5 years expired.

In 2013, he co-founded Salute Nigeria Initiative, with Ambassador Chielo Ojirika also known as Chiboy The Black Courage, Nigerian Cultural Ambassador to Germany, a none governmental organization (NGO) aimed at promoting peaceful co-existance and socio-economic upliftment of Nigeria.
He is presently the chairman organizing committee of Nigerian -German Investment and Cultural Expo, organized by Salute Nigeria Initiative in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation OSGF (The Presidency), Federal Ministry of Industry,Trade and Investment, Federal Ministry of Art, Culture,Tourism and Creative Economy with the support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nigeria Investment and Promotion Commission (NIPC) scheduled for 7th-10th, April,2025 in Berlin, Germany with the theme-” Unlocking Nigeria’s Investment Potentials for Industrial Revolution “, and sub- theme-“Cultural Export: Key Opportunities for Foreign Direct Investment ” aimed at supporting President Bola Tinubu’s led government determination to attract Investments and continuously position the country as the economic leader in the African continent

Sir Mike Okiro enjoys writing as he has authored, published and presented the following books;

Sir Okiro is happily married with children, enjoys playing chess and writing.
