Because the Internet doesn’t forget, an old video of Senate President Godswill Akpabio apologising to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan resurfaced over his previous altercation with her when he indecently likened her female colleague’s attitude in the hallowed chamber to that of someone frolicking in a night club.
The current raging altercations between Akpabio and Natasha isn’t their first rough time together. But watching the video again, and as I had been expecting he would offer some explanation on the new conflict in the Senate, it skipped my mind that it was about their old encounter. As my people would say in street parlance, “mo gòó; I instantly fell for it, although I still saw Akpabio as that irredeemable lout who won’t stop running his mouth.
Akpabio had directed the altering of the sitting arrangement in the Senate.
Natasha was moved from her seat to another corner without the courtesy of informing her until she got into the hallowed chamber and she was told she could no longer have her seat. So she raised hell and accused the Senate President of deliberately undermining her in the Senate.
The drama soon moved from struggling over a seat in the chamber to running away from the Senate President’s bed in his hotel room and his palatial home in Akwa Ibom.
The lady senator had accused Akpabio of making inappropriate sexual advances towards her on several occasions, even when her husband was present.
Natasha’s husband, who’s been a longtime family friend of the Akpabios, has also confirmed knowing about the Senate President’s seductive moves towards his wife.
So Akpabio had similarly ruffled feathers with Ireti Kingibe, another female senator who’s representing the FCT, Abuja. He had derogatorily dismissed her as a distraction to the FCT Minister, Inyesom Wike.
History is replete with Akpabio’s infamous public encounters and his many disgraceful utterances, long before he got to the seat of Senate President.
Akpabio’s wife, Ekaette, added an interesting dimension to the feud between Natasha and the Senate President in the hallowed chamber. She came out in defence of her husband that Natasha’s sexual harassment allegation was a cheap blackmail kind of, and going as far as dragging the irate female senator to court for publicly shaming her family. Ekaette wants a “chicken” sum, yes, a chicken sum of N250 billion I say, as damages from Natasha.
Give it to Ekaette, she is really acting the good wife, before another lady will jump out from the blues to accuse her husband of fondling her breasts at a bukateria and Nigerians would begin to see her darling Akpabio as a community prick.
But then, Ekaette cannot quickly forget that Natasha isn’t the first lady to accuse her husband of pursuing them with his dick. So when I read about the suit she instituted against Natasha, I laughed within but reasoned aloud what my people would say in such laughable situations, “òyìnbó mu otí, otí ñ pa kúkù”; that the white man drank alcohol but it’s his cook that is feeling tipsy.
Ekaette should rather join Joy Nunieh, former acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) who once claimed on national television that she slapped Akpabio for sexually harassing her. in her suit against Natasha. It’s my advice, and surely, it’s gonna make her case more interesting in court.
Nunieh made the allegation during an interview on Arise TV on July 13, 2020.
Akpabio has had too many gaffes that ridicule the high office that he’s occupying as Senate President, the collective integrity of the National Assembly and the dignity of the Nigerian nation.
As Senate President he dropped his first poo on the coveted seat in the early life of the 10th Senate in August 2023. He had told the senators at the end of the Senate’s ministerial screening that the Clerk of the National Assembly had been instructed to send some money to their various bank accounts to enable them enjoy their holiday. He soon changed his words, or he struggled to change his words, so to speak, when his colleagues alerted him that plenary was on a live coverage. He then said, “I withdraw that statement”.
But much as he tried to mask his real character so much he splashed his own face with his folly.
Continuing, he said, “In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return.”
Of course, Nigerians got Akpabio’s message loud and clear that the Senate institution under him, perhaps from time immemorial, was going to be a cesspool of corrupt practices where public money was being shared with reckless abandon.
I don’t need to bore you with listing many of his inglorious gaffes, you can entertain yourself at your own pleasure if you would you spare your time to romance Google on this matter.
However, one thing that is certain is that Akpabio is irredeemable when it comes to shooting through his mouth roughly and he will continue to be an embarrassment to the institution of the National Assembly and Nigeria at large. Surely, we can do better as a nation without having a lout like him on the Senate President’s seat.
But then, I know that for a party like the APC with President Bola Tinubu and Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje as their driving force; yes, you know more than I know, and their comfortable majority in the Senate, Akpabio will continue to sit comfy and foul the air with his running mouth…and perhaps his disgusting conduct that will put everyone in the Senate, and indeed Nigeria, to shame.
