President of the Senate and a distinguished alumnus of the University of Calabar, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was honoured on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at an award ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the Institution in Calabar, Cross River State.
Also honoured was the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, another distinguished alumnus of the University.
Senator Akpabio was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Godswill Akpabio and some Senators including the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Senators Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Osita Ngwu, Titus Zam, Sunday Karimi, Asuquo Ekpenyong, Eteng Williams, among others.
Officials of the University included the Emir of Kano and Chancellor, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the Pro-chancellor (DIG) Udom Ekpoudom (rtd), the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Florence Banku Obi among others.
The event featured anniversary lecture, the review /unveiling of Unical @ 50 book by the Golden Vice-Chancellor, Prof Florence Banku Obi and the cutting of the anniversary cake/toast to Unical @ 50.
