Uromi the sprawling spartan Esan land is in the news for the bad reason today. I watched the video of the dastardly massacre of the alleged travelers going to the northern part of Nigeria for the Sallah holiday. Uromi had allegedly lost over 20 indigenes to the gruesome murder by kidnappers purportedly of northern origin in recent times. Their women have been mindlessly raped and difiled. Painful! Be that as it may, no one has the right to take the life of anyone in an extra judicial manner. The swift intervention of the Edo state Governor Okpebholo and the subsequent arrest made by the police must be commended. Now let us speak the ugly truth to ourselves. I hear some unscrupulous elements in some parts of the north are threatening reprisal attacks on the southerners residing in the north. Stupidity! When a Christian southerner, Miss Deborah was brutally murdered in cold blood in the North by Muslim fanatics, what was the government of that state’s action. How many people were arrested up till today? Non. Injustice. Bola Tinubu and the governor of Edo State should improve the security of Nigeria and Edo state. There should be gun control and tempers control in the land. Because of the overwhelming security situation in Nigeria, everyone that possesses a gun, be it dane gun for hunting or dangerous gun for the armed forces is considered a suspect. There is total collapse of security and palpable fear in the land. The police should thread softly with the people arrested in Uromi. They may not after all, really be the culprits in this heinous crime. Nigerians are waiting for the re-visiting of Deborah’s murder in Sokoto. They are awaiting the police arrest of the culprits and trial. If the various security agencies in Nigeria do not come with the arrests of Deborah’s murderers in Sokoto in one week, let the police in Edo State release the arrested Uromi suspects and find political solution to this issue. Simple. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
May the soul of the departed rest in peace.
