In memory of Oladunjoye (March 1, 1967-April 4, 2025)

By Uche Nnadozie

Yesterday, I got a call after several anxious days of wishing that everything would turn around…

We met at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos, where he introduced a lot of our classmates to the human rights community.

Though he was our egbon, he dropped that part of him at home and blended with everyone easily.

We did media advocacy together. We also published an anthology together.

At least I taught him one thing -how to drive!

One day, from seeing his in-laws at Ede, we went to Akure. From there through Ore, we branched off to his village where he told me he had decided to join politics.

I was by his side in Ijebu-Itele, Ijebu-East LGA when he registered and picked his card as a member of his political party then. From supervisory councillor, he was later to became chairman of the council.

From there he became a deputy governorship candidate, publicity secretary of APC in Ogun, media consultant to Governor Abiodun and numerous other political appointments.

Oladunjoye was frank to a fault, smart, kind, industrious, workaholic, poet, journalist, writer, PR specialist and above all a loving husband and protective father to his children.

He loved journalism and writing, loved his Ijebu heritage, Ogun, and this country deeply.

A devoted but liberal Muslim, his work is done. There goes his sail…

Thank you for everything, and may God protect your family and everyone you loved.
