Glo opens 20th anniversary of Ojude Oba sponsorship with night of great music

Nigeria’s biggest culture and tradition supporter, Globacom, on Friday night in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, provided a preview of this year’s Ojude Oba festival with a stunning entertainment event that featured Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, the king of Fuji music, and Commander Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi.

This year’s Ojude Oba commemorates Globacom’s 20-year sponsorship of the event. Because of the company’s backing, the Ojude Oba festival has become a popular tourist destination and is in the running to be recognized as a global heritage event.

Tagged an “Evening with Glo “, Friday’s event was a night of fun, dance and rib-cracking jokes from comedians Gbenga Adeyinka, Bash, Dr Smile and performance by social media influencer, Kiekie.

The legendary juju music icon, Dr Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi sang from his repertoire of music. The perfect rendition of some of his classic songs got many of the guests getting up and dancing.

It was a simple journey to the past with songs laced with philosophical messages that stood the Chief Commander out over the decades. He also composed and performed a song in praise of Globacom’s 20 years of sponsorship of the Ojude Oba festival.

The “Evening with Glo”, Globacom explained, was organized to thank the Ijebu community for their support for the brand for 20 years of its sponsorship of Ojude Oba festival.

“We decided to bring together great sons and daughters of Ijebuland to celebrate our shared heritage, and indulge in the melodious rhythms that resonate deeply throughout Yorubaland”, the company stated.

Speaking on its choice of musicians for the event, Glo added that “the ageless icon and Juju music maestro, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, has contributed decades of good, sonorous and philosophical songs to our society. His songs are still as fresh and full of inspirational messages as they were yesterday”.

On KWAM 1, the company disclosed “For decades, King of Fuji, K1 De Ultimate, the Fuji master, has been a great part of the music firmament in Nigeria, with his unique brand of Fuji that has elicited huge interest”.

Eminent sons and daughters of Ijebuland including the Olori of Oba Awujale, Chief Mrs. Olukemi Adetona; the Coordinator of Ojude Oba Festival Planning Committee, Professor Fassy Yusuff, and member of the committee and Iyalode of Ijebuland, Chief Mrs. Bisi Osibogun, attended the event.
