The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has slammed FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, calling his Thursday media tirade a โ€œpanic attackโ€ driven by fear of the rising opposition coalition.

Reacting to Wikeโ€™s televised outbursts against coalition leaders, the ADC said his conduct was disgraceful for someone holding a federal position, accusing him of โ€œmortal fearโ€ over the growing popularity of the coalition movement.

โ€œWe believe Minister Wike could only descend to that level because of his mortal fear of the threat that the successful unveiling of the coalition of opposition political parties constitutes to the government that he serves,โ€ said Mal. Bolaji Abdullahi, coalition spokesman.

The party hit hard at Wikeโ€™s record in Abuja, citing months of unpaid salaries for striking primary school teachers and his obsession with flashy, billion-naira projects while ignoring FCT workersโ€™ welfare.

โ€œIf Minister Wike had paid teachers, if he hadnโ€™t treated workers with contempt, he wouldnโ€™t need to be afraid of the coalition,โ€ ADC stated.

Wike had claimed coalition leaders were driven by personal grievances. But ADC fired back:

โ€œIf we have any grievances, it is how this government has driven Nigerians into poverty and misery. We are aggrieved watching children miss school because teachers are unpaid. We are aggrieved at the growing insecurity in the FCT. We are aggrieved that Wike allowed himself to be used to destroy the PDP.โ€

The ADC declared the coalition now belongs to Nigerians robbed of hope by the APC.

โ€œNo amount of tirade against coalition leaders can stop this movement,โ€ Abdullahi warned.

For Wike, the game may be up. The ground beneath him is shiftingโ€”and fast.
