In a landslide victory, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Emmanuel Nwachukwu, has won the by-election for the Anambra South Senatorial District held on Saturday, 16th August 2025. This victory is seen as a testament to Governor Soludo’s performance-driven popularity in Anambra State. The emphatic victory has now set the stage for the gubernatorial election slated for November, which many now consider a mere coronation of the well-respected Professor of economics.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Emmanuel Nwachukwu the winner with a total vote of 90,408, as declared by the returning Officer at the INEC Office in Nnewi, Prof. Frank Ojiako.

The INEC Returning Officer, in his statement, confirmed that the APGA candidate satisfied the requirements of the law and has been declared the winner of the election for the senatorial seat.
The by-election was conducted by the electoral body to fill the vacancy created by the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the Senate until his passing in July 2024.
