Mr. Val Obienyem the spokesman of Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party at the last election has described as fake his principal’s picture with Mr. Donald Trump, the American president.
the picture of the duo has been circulating online with a claim that Trump praised Obi.
Below is a full text of the statement denying the picture and claim.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fake image circulating online, of Mr. Peter Obi with US President Donald Trump, accompanied by a false claim that Mr. Trump praised him. We wish to make it clear that the picture is fake, and the accompanying story is entirely untrue.
Mr. Obi has not met Mr. Trump, nor has he received any such remarks from him recently. This is yet another example of the dangers of fake news and disinformation aimed at misleading the public. We urge Nigerians and the international community to always verify information before sharing.
Mr. Obi remains steadfast in his commitment to responsible leadership anchored on integrity, accountability, and transparency, not falsehoods”.
