PDP inaugurates new BoT, pledges end to impunity

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad, on Friday inaugurated a new Board of Trustees (BoT) in Abuja, describing it as a “symbol of rebirth” for the party.
Muhammad, who previously served as the National Vice Chairman (North Central), assumed leadership following the suspension of the former National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum.
In his address, Muhammad vowed to restore internal discipline, uphold the party’s constitution, and put an end to what he called “years of impunity and disregard for due process.”
“For too long, impunity became culture, and internal democracy became an afterthought. But today, we have reached the point of renewal,” he said.
The Acting Chairman attributed the party’s lingering challenges to disunity and neglect of the party’s zoning principles ahead of the 2015 elections.
“Today marks a significant turning point in the life of the Peoples Democratic Party,” he declared. “We have come together not merely to inaugurate a new Board of Trustees, but to renew our faith in the ideals that gave birth to this great political family — justice, fairness, inclusive, and respect for the rule of law.
“To the new members of the BoT, this is not a reward for loyalty; it is a sacred trust. The responsibility before you is enormous — to speak truth to power, defend justice, and ensure that the PDP remains a home for all Nigerians,” he added.
Following the inauguration, Muhammad held a closed-door meeting with key party figures, including former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, PDP National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu, and former Abia North Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.
