Tribute to Oskar

By Skid Ikemefuna

From our first meeting on Curtis Adeniyi Jones Close Surulere in 1975 when he used to visit his maternal grandmother Mrs Pepple with his siblings (Gloria, Peter, Obuks, Elvina, Emma) to our visits to the motorboat club on Awolowo road Ikoyi, his family home in Apapa, office in VI, and hanging out in Chelsea London, Oskar was very down to earth and unassuming. Absolutely no airs, and you would never know about his financial status or privileged family background if you were not told by someone.

He could relate to everyone. I remember how nicely he treated Thomas the driver that used to bring them to Surulere those days. He was just so real, natural and spontaneous.
Even when he ran the massive billion dollars business empire after the transition of his father, he remained Oskar.. Skiddo’.
He always said to me that I am the original Skidd anytime I called him Skido.
Oskar lived a good, blessed life mostly on the fast lane.
He came, he saw and he conquered.

When YAH calls, nobody can say no, no matter how much one slows down.
May his kind and gentle soul rest in Perfect Peace… Amen
Skidd Ikemefuna
