AFCON: S/Eagles on the move
Defeats Tunisia 3-2 to qualify for knockout stage
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured qualification for the knockout stages of the ongoing AFCON in Morocco after a thrilling 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday night in Fes.
Nigeria took control of the Group C clash with first-half dominance, capped by Victor Osimhen’s powerful header from Ademola Lookman’s cross just before the break.
The Super Eagles resumed with intensity after halftime, as captain Wilfred Ndidi doubled the lead with a header five minutes into the second half, again from Lookman’s delivery.
Ademola Lookman later got on the scoresheet in the 67th minute, finishing off a fine team move involving Alex Iwobi and Osimhen to put Nigeria 3–0 ahead.
Tunisia mounted a late comeback through Montassar Talbi in the 74th minute and Ali Elabdi’s penalty in the 87th, but Nigeria held firm to seal their second consecutive win of the tournament.
The victory confirms Nigeria’s place in the knockout rounds ahead of their final group game against Uganda on Tuesday in Fes.
