Anioma Professionals calls for flexible voter registration

The Association of Anioma Professionals, a non-political group, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to adopt a flexible strategy in voter registration to enable Nigerians register beyond the electoral cycle.
The group which membership comprises individuals from Delta North Senatorial District engaged in productive ventures in the public and private sectors made the call in a statement where it encouraged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during the ongoing exercise by INEC.
According to a statement signed by its national president, Mr. Peter Nkenchor, a retired permanent secretary, voter registration should no longer be confined to just a few weeks ahead of an electoral cycle. “If the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) can register people all through the year without any timeframe and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) can be routinely generated and issued to Nigerians, it is possible for INEC to carry out voter registration all through the year”, the group noted in its statement.
They called on people of Delta North extraction that make up the Anioma nation to empower themselves in determining who runs the government at all levels and councils in the district by registering to obtain their PVCs.
“The path to ensuring that Anioma and Delta State are led by credible people begins with our people registering to vote. We urge the presidents-general of town unions, royal fathers as well as women and youth groups to mobilise in Anioma to encourage our people to register to vote.
“That is the only of having a say on who wields the power to control our destiny. The ongoing registration of voters is an opportunity our people must not miss”, the statement noted.
Nkenchor said the Association of Anioma Professionals will continue to champion the interests and development of Anioma nation and Delta State. He said the group will collaborate with the town union leaders and traditional leaders to ensure the zone maximises its voting strength.
