Side by side with big brother

By Shaibu Husseini

Last Friday, I was invited as a guest speaker at the Fireside session with Nigerian-American actor Gbenga Akinnagbe. Gbenga Akinnagbe

The conversation was intentionally designed to engage and inspire the younger generation in Nollywood, and it was a privilege to share thoughts on the future of our industry. We spoke about professionalism, structure, responsible storytelling, and the importance of building systems that support creativity while sustaining global relevance.

It was an enriching exchange, one that reaffirmed the value of mentorship, dialogue, and intergenerational learning.

At the National Film Video Board (NFVCB) and indeed at our parent ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, our commitment remains clear: to create an enabling environment where creativity can thrive responsibly. We will continue to support the film and broader creative industry through effective regulation, capacity development, stakeholder engagement, and policies that protect cultural values while encouraging innovation and global competitiveness.

“Give Back” platforms like this one by Gbenga remain vital as we continue to guide emerging talents and strengthen the foundations of Nigeria’s film industry.

I remain committed to supporting spaces that empower creatives with clarity, discipline, and vision for long-term impact.

It was a pleasure to meet with industry great such as the singer and actor Ikechukwu, the actress and comedianne Chigul, the delectable Emmy Award winning journalist Ojinika Obiekwe, the filmmaker Soji Ogunnaike, filmmaker, broadcast owner and Creative industry advocate Charles Novia and a couple of industry professionals at the fireside chat held at CIIFA Safe House, Ikoyi, Lagos. Special thanks to my DG at the Cbaac CBAAC Hon. Aisha Augie for co- facilitating the event
