As all fingers are crossed waiting for who the All Progressive Congress (APC) will present as it’s governorship candidate for 2027 election and the division the fellow will come from, a former member of the Labour Party who contested the championship position of Ifako/Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Asade Adedayo, has said that it will only be proper and fair if the governorship ticket is given to aspirant from Badagry.
This, according to him, is because ” Since the state’s creation, power has rotated among the Lagos (Island), Ikeja, and Ikorodu divisions, while Badagry Division—comprising Badagry, Ojo, and Amuwo-Odofin—has remained a loyal supporter yet never produced a governor.”
Below is the full text of his statement issued in Lagos.
As Lagos approaches the 2027 gubernatorial election, equity and historical justice demand that Badagry Division produce the next governor. Since the state’s creation, power has rotated among the Lagos (Island), Ikeja, and Ikorodu divisions, while Badagry Division—comprising Badagry, Ojo, and Amuwo-Odofin—has remained a loyal supporter yet never produced a governor.
Honoring rotational fairness is a moral and strategic imperative for Lagos’s unity. Nominating a credible candidate from Badagry would energize a loyal voter base, reward steadfast support, and integrate the division’s unique perspectives on border security, tourism, and agriculture into the state’s development agenda.
In 2027, choosing a candidate from Badagry would be a masterstroke of statesmanship, building a more unified and equitable Lagos.
