ASADE CALLS FOR URGENT ELECTORAL REFORM AS FOUNDATION FOR NATIONAL STABILITY AND ECONOMIC REVIVAL‎

Asade

‎Good governance and national progress are built on one non-negotiable pillar: the unwavering trust of the people. The current state of our nation reveals a dangerous erosion of this trust, stemming directly from a contested and opaque electoral process. This has created a cycle of political instability, social fragmentation, and economic uncertainty that stifles our nation’s immense potential.

‎The single most impactful and immediate solution to this crisis is for the National Assembly to pass, and the President to assent to, the Electoral Act Amendment Bill with mandatory, real-time electronic transmission of results (ERT) as its unequivocal core provision.

Why This is Non-Negotiable:

· To Rebuild National Unity & Confidence: ERT closes the door to post-election manipulation by creating an immutable, publicly verifiable record of votes at the polling unit. This assures every Nigerian that their vote is sacred and counts, dousing the tensions that follow disputed elections and fostering a shared sense of citizenship.

· To Unlock Economic Prosperity: Credible elections produce legitimate governments that attract long-term investment. Major national projects like the Badagry Deep Seaport in Lagos—which promises to transform our economy through job creation and trade—require a stable, trusted political environment to secure financing and ensure successful execution. ERT is the cornerstone of that stability.

‎We urge the National Assembly to rise above partisan interests and adopt the stronger House version of the bill mandating real-time transmission. We further call on President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate historic leadership by signing this critical reform into law without delay.

‎This is more than a technical adjustment; it is a fundamental act of national renewal. By securing our democracy through transparency, we lay the foundation for the unity, strength, and prosperity that all Nigerians deserve.
