The recent nrws that the Commissioner for Works (Rural roads), Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has been suspended for ant-party activity, is just a pointer to the drama of the absurd Deltans and by extension Nigerians, will be treated to as the real electioneering for 2027 elections begins in a few months.
According to the news that is still flying all over the place in the social media, the party’s sledge hammar fell on the young and extremely fashionable commissioner for hosting a meeting of members of the party in his Akumazi country home against laid down procedure.
Aniagwu who is about the best performing commissioner in the cabinet of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori surfaced in the political space of the state in 2015 when the immediate past governor of the state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, head hunted him from his previous place of work, African Independent Television, ( AIT), and him his chief press secretary. He discharged his duty of speaking for the governor of the state creditable well that the governor on winning his second term election, not only retained Aniagwu but made him the commissioner for information to now speak for the entire state govt; a kind of reward for a job well done, is more work.
However, unknown to many, this progressive rise of Aniagwu who was also one of the spokespersons for the Atiku/Okowa candidates during the 2023 presidential election, was not pleasing to some people in his Akumazi ward. Talk of who know man ‘ dey kill am’. They waited patiently for what to use to pull him down from his high white horse. And few days ago, the opportunity came their way via the meeting, which to them is outside his tour of duty since he is not a party official at the ward level. It did not matter to them whether he is one of the best if not the best from Delta North Senatorial District in Oborevwori cabinet that have brought development to rural areas all over the state by linking such rural communities with their local government headquarters with passable road. To them, we must throw the baby and bathwater away at the same time. Pronto, his suspension, which he has rightly described as “a joke taken too far” in a recent TV interview, from the party was engineered and sold to the media to escalate it and distract the commissioner. And that was what the laptop boys masquerading as journalists did and the ebullient commissioner began to ran from pillar to post the reason for the meeting and what it was intended to achieve – peaceful co-existence especially with the recent exodus of former People Democrat Party (PDP) members into All Progressive Congress (APC).
The intention of the meeting notwithstanding, it is also very important for Aniagwu to remember the saying that ‘when someone’s people kill him who will fight for justice for him”?.
This was how what led to the fall of Iyorcha Ayu as the chairman of PDP started. And today Ayu who was one the senate president is no more relevant in national politics.
Yes, it is a joke taken too far but a joke that must be taken seriously as the Anioma nation by extension Delta North Senatorial District cannot afford to lose a highly performing commissioner.
And to those behind the expulsion ‘rumour’ it is time to let by gone be bygone.
