In a recent interview on Arise TV, the National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party, Dan Nwanyanwu, raised strong concerns about the integrity of the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, warning against any attempt to manipulate the process.
According to Nwanyanwu, “We are not going to allow elections to be rigged in the FCT; you cannot achieve it,” he declared during the programme, signaling what he described as zero tolerance for electoral malpractice.
Nwanyanwu stated that Abuja has a distinct voting culture and insisted that no political office holder, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, should assume undue influence over the outcome of the polls. According to him, the credibility of the election would serve as a test case for Nigeria’s broader democratic process.
He emphasized that political parties are mobilizing agents across polling units to ensure transparency, adding that votes must be properly counted and results accurately recorded. He warned that any attempt to alter figures or manipulate return sheets would be resisted within the bounds of the law.
The ZLP chairman maintained that smaller parties deserve a fair playing field and should not be intimidated by dominant political structures. He argued that democracy thrives when institutions function independently and when electoral bodies uphold neutrality.
While clarifying that his remarks were not a personal attack, Nwanyanwu insisted that safeguarding the FCT election is a collective responsibility. He said credible polls in Abuja would strengthen public confidence and reinforce Nigeria’s democratic stability
