Kimiakigha seeks training tour, hails Niger Delta Games as launchpad for Future glory

Promising 18years 200 level Political Science student of Benson Idahosa University, Joy Kimiakigha, has expressed deep appreciation to the organisers of the Niger Delta Games following her impressive gold medal performance in the women’s 100 metres breaststroke event.
Representing Team Edo, Kimiakigha described the championship as a life-changing platform that has further strengthened her confidence and resolve to pursue excellence in swimming. She praised the organisation and competitive standard of the Games, noting that it provided athletes with a rare opportunity to measure their abilities against the best from across the Niger Delta region.
The young swimmer, who delivered a stellar outing in the pool, appealed for a structured post Games programme, particularly a national or international training tour for outstanding medalists.

According to her, such an initiative would guarantee continuity, exposure and steady development, rather than allowing the momentum generated by the championship to fade.
She further called on critical stakeholders, including the Niger Delta Development Commission and Dunamis-Icon, to sustain their support for sports development, stressing that long-term investment remains vital for nurturing future champions from the Niger Delta.
Kimiakigha also acknowledged the unwavering support of her coach and the Edo State Sports Commission, attributing her success to disciplined training, mentorship and institutional backing that kept her focused and motivated throughout her preparation.
Looking ahead, the gold medalist expressed strong belief in her future, describing it as bright and full of promise. She revealed her ultimate ambition to one day represent Nigeria on the global stage, confident that with sustained support, proper planning and continued hard work, her dream of swimming for the nation will become a reality.
She concluded by describing the Niger Delta Games as a defining chapter in her young career, adding that the championship has inspired her to aim higher, balance academics with sports, and continue to make Edo State proud in and out of the pool.
