NFVCB moving from censorship to classification – Husseini

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) management board has concluded plans to end the era of video and film censorship, instead it will now focus on classification of films to give them appropriate grading like it is done all over the globe just as it will soon migrate from analogue censorship (classification ) to Digital classification process from June 2024 when the Board turns 30!

This, according to the newly appointed Executive Director General of the Board, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, will allow content creators submit their content for classification from the comfort of their rooms, pay, track and get their certificates online.

Dr. Husseini who was addressing his first press conference as a DG also revealed plan by the Board to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Film Museum in Lagos to preserve films and video works classified by the Board from inception to date.

Also as part of the Board’s 30 years anniversary, the Board, he said will work towards improving the ‘ come back time for classification of contents,’ and also continue in its on-going engagement with stakeholders including exhibition and distribution platforms to achieve a win win situation, triple its effort on media literacy, take data generation seriously .

It will be recalled that Dr. Husseini, a choreographer, an accomplished journalist, one of Nigeria’s time honoured movie critic, was appointed the DG of NFVCB by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a month 29 days ago, precisely 60 days in office as at Friday May 10, 2024.
