King of World Beats, King Sunny Ade, who is one of the oldest and very, very active musician in the whole world, has hailed his media friends who have stood by him over the years for their unflinching support.
In a statement released by Mr. Charles Ogundipe, his long standing manager, he also greeted his fans all over the world, without who he said ‘there would have been no Sunny Ade.’ ‘
KSA who is now living comfortably in his Ondo country home like the king of juju music, which he is, said that without the media, there would have been no KSA and that he is using the opportunity offered by season to send a special felicitation to the men of the pen whose pens are mighty than a thousand bayonet as Napoleon Bornaparte said centuries ago.
He also specially thanked his clients/patrons for believing in him and patronising him all these years.
“I thank them specially for their support. For believing and enjoying my brand of juju music. For that I say a big thank to you them and I want to assure them that as the long as the Lord Liveth and blessed me good health, I will continue to satisfy them,” he said.
Sunny Adé formed his backing band in known as Greenspots in 1967 before changing to African Beats. After achieving national success in the 1970s and founding his own label, Sunny Adé signed on to Island Records in 1982 and achieved international success with the albums Juju Music (1982) and Synchro System (1983); the latter garnered him a Grammy nomination, a first for a Nigerian artiste. His 1998 album Odu also garnered a Grammy nomination. Sunny Adé served as board chairman of the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria before it got licensed and was later appointed honorary president of the society in recognition of his leadership role in the society. He was at a time, the President of Nigerian musicians union, Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
