NFVCB Empowers Mothers to Build a Safer Digital Future at 2nd Edition of “Ndi Nne Mama” August Meeting*


The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) successfully hosted the second edition of its “Ndi Nne Mama” (Mothers) initiative during the annual August Meeting in Amechi Ishi Ozalla and Amigbo Ozalla, Nkanu West LGA, Enugu State. With the theme “Building A Safer Online Environment for Families,” the event brought together mothers, community leaders, and NFVCB representatives to promote digital safety and responsible media consumption.
Mrs. Bola Athar, Director of Service Innovation Department (SID) and representative of the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the mothers. “You are the first line of defense in shaping a safer digital future for your children,” she stated, reinforcing the Board’s commitment to media literacy and family protection.
According to the Executive Director, “Ndi Nne Mama” August Meeting has reinforced the NFVCB’s dedication to grassroots advocacy and community engagement. Through education, dialogue, and cultural exchange, the event strengthened the partnership between the Board and Nigerian families in fostering a safer online environment”.
Athar noted that the Executive Director has been in the forefront of supporting positive and safer Internet experience for our children. According to her, that informed the need to empower the mothers on responsible media consumption. She also stated that the Board goes beyond classification of films and video works. “What we are doing today is part of the advocacy projects through media Literacy to make more Nigerians media literate in the observation of the classification ratings of the Board,” she noted.
The events, held simultaneously in both communities featured insightful presentations and interactive discussions. Mrs. Charity Egwusigo and Mrs. Nnenna Chima Abel educated attendees on NFVCB classification symbols and the importance of monitoring children’s media exposure. Mr. Matthew Chukwu delivered a compelling talk on “Online Safety: The Role of Mothers,” emphasizing proactive parenting in the digital age.
The program concluded with vibrant cultural performances and a surprise appearance by Nollywood stars, the Aneke Twins (Chidinma and Chidiebere Aneke), who encouraged mothers to stay vigilant about their children’s screen time.
Later, the NFVCB delegation paid a courtesy visit to HRH Igwe Sylvanus O. Okeke, the Eziafa ka Ego and Isi 1 of Ishi Ozalla. The traditional ruler warmly received the team, commended the initiative, and extended an invitation to the Board for his upcoming Ofalla festival in December 2025. OGBONNA ONWUMERE
