Drug trafficking, Trump arrests Maduro

President Donald Trump announced early Saturday morning that the US carried out a “large scale strike against Venezuela” and that President Nicolas Maduro and his wife have been captured and removed from the country.

“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement”, he added

The action marks a confirmation of repeated warning by Trump that the US was preparing to take new measures against alleged drug trafficking networks in Venezuela.

A report by CNN had earlier noted several explosions in Caracas and reported some areas of the city were without electricity. The first blast was recorded at approximately 1.50am local time on Saturday.

U.S. authorities had in 2025, raised the bounty from $15 million to $25 million on President Nicolas Maduro and his two allies, Diosdado Cabello Rondón and Vladimir Padrino López, wanted for drug trafficking.

The U.S. Department of State in a statement on its website said Maduro and his allies are wanted for narcotics trafficking, offering a total of $65 million for information that would lead to their arrest and conviction.

“@USTreasury just sanctioned Cartel de los Soles as a terrorist group. Run by the corrupt and contemptible Nicolás Maduro, it is responsible for trafficking drugs into the U.S.,” said the department.

It added, “Help us take down Maduro and his cronies Diosdado Cabello Rondón & Vladimir Padrino López!”

In a wanted poster of Maduro, labelling him a “designated global terrorist cartel de los soles leader”, the U.S. Department of State offered $25 million to whoever is able to provide “information leading to the arrest and/or conviction”.

The Venezuelan president is wanted “for narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, conspiracy to use and carry machine guns and destructive devices in furtherance of a drug crime”, the poster added.
