Ukah inspects road projects in Asaba, tasks contractors on quality delivery

The Director General of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, DSCTDA, Chief Patrick Ukah, has charged contractors handling various ongoing road projects initiated by the agency to ensure they delivered quality jobs.

Ukah gave the charge in Asaba on Wednesday at the end of a one-day inspection tour of road projects in the state capital.

The DG said the inspection became necessary in order to ensure that the projects were executed in accordance with the contract specifications.

Some of the projects inspected included: The construction of Redeemer’s Street, Obidinma Okonne Street, Vomechel Owumi Street, and the construction of Anyafulu Chinedum Street, all in Oshimili South Local Government Area.

The DG expressed satisfaction with the level of work being done by the contractors handling the projects even as he urged them to expedite action on the remaining portions, as this would increase the number of projects to be commissioned during the celebration of one year of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE agenda.

“We have identified some gaps and challenges which need to be addressed immediately, and the contractors have equally agreed to do all the necessary corrections.

“One major observation we found out was that the engineers that built private houses for people along one of the roads inspected did not take cognisance of the level of the topography of the ground, and there is need to make the town planners understand the need to work with engineers when seeking approval, adding that in one of the roads inspected, the drainages were higher than the houses.

The DG, however, promised to embark on regular inspection of projects to ensure strict adherence to set standards.
