… Urges Adonte male politicos to join the race
By Ebodili Emmanuel
Report reaching us is that the planned PDP primary election into the Adonte Ward is nothing short of a show of shame and has been cancelled. It is alleged to be marred with violence, attack of the returning officers to the extent of inflicting injuries on them, threats and other conducts that violates DSIEC’s Electoral Guidelines. That the attack resulted to the medical evaluation of the returning officers to receive treatment at Isheagu clinic. So, anybody with useful information on what happened, should state his or her own side of the story for Adonte people all over the world to review it against this report and be properly informed.
This report, if confirmed to be fact (truth+ evidence), does not look good to the image of Adonte and portrays us in bad light. It clearly shows that there was little or no voters education, there were misinformation and disinformation of Adonte people, leading to the exclusion and disqualification of eligible and vibrant male candidates from Adonte. It also shows that the contending candidates had no control over their supporters. The belief that the perpetrators of the violence were acting in favour or advantage of their candidates is not a justification of any conduct that resulted to violence, assault occasioning body harm and breach of public peace.
What Adonte need is effective representation from a vibrant, articulate and popularity candidate and not imposition by fire, by force. All Adonte indigenes are not only concerned about a fair and peaceful PDP primary election for Adonte Ward, we are all interested in the free, fair and credible election of a competent candidate into the Aniocha South Local Government Council from Adonte Ward and the person that misinformed Adonte people that male candidates are excluded from contesting the election did not mean well for Adonte.
The Governor, who is the leader of the PDP in Delta State did not say that male candidates should not contest for the position of a Councilor. Adonte did not say that male candidates should not contest for the position of a Councilor. The Governor said that there should be no imposition of candidates and that only popular candidate that is loved by the people and chosen by all the stakeholders should emerge. He later stated that where a male candidate emerge as the local government chairman, a female must be vice chairman and that at least three (3) female Councilors must be produced from each local government. How does that translate to “Adonte must be producing only female Councilors? Why must Adonte be producing only female Councilors? Is Adonte the only Ward in Aniocha South that the Governor’s instruction should be implemented? I challenge that politician with exactly what the Governor said at the two occasions. If Adonte Ward was used to implement the female policy in the last election, common sense and equity demands that the policy will shift to the other Aniocha South Local Government Wards. The male candidates who has been excluded and disqualified through the misinformation and disinformation are free to protest their exclusion and disqualification.
In any case, the report bother on crime and I trust the police will step in, investigate it and deal with the situation according to the law in order to serve as deterrent to others. What if the PDP primary election is unable to be rescheduled and concluded by the deadline fixed by DSIEC (26th of May)? What we need in Adonte is a peaceful electoral process that is devoid of violence and imposition and result in effective representation at the council, but in the absence of truth, fairness, equity and justice, there can be no peace.
