LG election in Lagos: Asade blames his defeat on low voters turn out

Prince Asade Adebayo, the Labour Party candidate for the chairmanship of Ifako/Ijaiye Local Government Area at the at the recently held local government election in Lagos State on June 22, 2025 has attributed his defeat at the polls to poor voters turn out among other factors.

And the low turn out, he said is because the voters had loss the confidence they had on the Lagos State electoral commission and so developed lukewarm attitude towards the election.
” There was loss of confidence in state electoral commission hence the low voters turn out”.

He said this in an exclusive online interview yesterday with charlesokogene.com while speaking on why he lost the election.

Asade who ran his electioneering campaign on what he called ‘omo adugbo’ (area son) slogan also said that the slogan was to “to promote the need for indigenous civic engagement in developing our community”, just as he said in an answer to a question as to what lesson(s) has he learned about the election process that no matter how hard hard one workrd, accepting that all power belongs to God is the greatest.
Asade, who like the party’s candidate at the 2023 election Chief Gbadebo Patrick Rhodes-Vivour,  has left the party, said that if there is a need to do it again, he will.
“Sure I will and if there is a need we would serve”.
Below is full text of the interview.

Tell us one single lesson you learnt the election process?
No matter how hard you work accepting that all power belongs to God is the greatest.

If you have your way will you do it again?Sure I will and if there is need we would serve.

Some people believed that you lost because the party on which you contested was in disarray and that a house divided on itself cannot stand.

Not at all, it was more of low voters turn out.

And in all honesty , you think you would have defeated the incumbent with all the odds in his favour?
We would have defeated him if the voters come out and vote.

With the election over and most members of the party on which you contested gone to different parties, what next for you?

Serving in any assigned role and capacity.
