Price reduction: Minister hails BUA

Ahmed Dangiwa, the minister of housing and urban development, has praised BUA Cement for deciding to lower cement’s price from approximately N5,500 to N3,500.

Dangiwa asserts that the price cut significantly improves the housing market and supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to give Nigerians access to affordable homes.

In reaction to BUA’s statement that the price of cement in the nation would be reduced, the minister made these comments yesterday.

He said that the rising cost of cement had caused a sharp rise in housing costs, leaving them out of reach for the typical Nigerian. He added that BUA’s decision was a significant step in the right direction for alleviating the financial burden on would-be homeowners.

In keeping with the Renewed Hope Agenda, Dangiwa emphasized that promoting affordable housing has been one of his major priorities since taking office.

“The escalating prices of building materials, especially cement, placed a daunting obstacle on the path to homeownership for many Nigerians. BUA Cement Plc’s decision to reduce the price of cement to N3,500 is highly commendable. It reflects its understanding of the struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians and is a positive step towards making housing more affordable and attainable for all.”

“We commend BUA for its socially responsible decision to reduce the price of cement. Accessible and affordable housing is a fundamental right, and this move by BUA will, undoubtedly, alleviate the challenges faced by our citizens. It demonstrates a shared commitment to improving the lives of our people and furthering the goals of sustainable urban development,” said.

The initiative of BUA, according to the minister, would not only help individual homeowners but will also encourage economic growth, create jobs, and help many Nigerians escape poverty by encouraging the creation of affordable housing and infrastructure.

Dangiwa thus advised other market participants to follow BUA’s lead by taking into account the social implications of their choices.

The minister emphasized his opinion that cooperation between public and private sector organizations is crucial for resolving the housing affordability issues and ensuring that every Nigerian has access to adequate living circumstances.
