Family Background:
Yeni Aníkúlápó Kútì, popularly known as YK, hails from the renowned Ransome-Kuti family. She is the granddaughter of the eminent Nigerian women’s rights activist Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti. Yeni is also the first child of the legendary afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and his British wife.

Contributions:
Yeni Aníkúlápó Kútì is credited with pioneering the idea of Felabration, a music festival established to honor and celebrate her father’s immense contributions to Nigerian music and society.

Biography:
Born in England, Yeni moved to Nigeria at the age of two, where she completed her basic and secondary education. She holds a diploma in journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. Initially pursuing a career in fashion design, Yeni shifted her focus to music and dance in 1986, joining her brother Femi Kuti’s band as a singer and dancer. Today, she co-manages the New Afrika Shrine alongside her brother, continuing to preserve and promote their father’s legacy.
